As Gaza's educational crisis continues, GSI is expanding support for students, academics, and educational initiatives inside Gaza itself — helping ensure that learning, knowledge, and academic life survive.
The destruction of Gaza's education system has devastated the futures of hundreds of thousands of students.
Education is not only a right — it is justice. It is resistance.
For many Palestinian students, continuing their education is the only pathway toward rebuilding their lives amid the ongoing genocide, displacement, and immense personal loss.
Education also restores:
"Despite the devastation, academics are actively engaged in initiatives to reconstruct the educational system — often promising to rebuild from tents."
Some universities have moved to online or makeshift virtual platforms, such as the "Gaza Virtual Campus," in an attempt to continue teaching.
Remote learning is severely hindered by the lack of electricity, internet, and physical safety, along with the trauma of tremendous personal loss and continued Israeli attacks and forced displacement.
Despite the devastation, academics are actively engaged in initiatives to reconstruct the educational system, often promising to "rebuild from tents," referencing the historical beginnings of universities in Gaza.
GSI's work inside Gaza focuses on four priority areas, each addressing a critical dimension of educational survival and long-term recovery.
Supporting students continuing higher education inside Gaza — helping them access course materials, maintain academic progress, and stay connected to their studies despite the destruction of educational infrastructure.
Supporting digital learning initiatives and academic partnerships that allow students inside Gaza to access education remotely — including virtual classrooms, online course access, and hybrid learning models with partner universities.
Supporting the long-term rebuilding of academic infrastructure and institutional capacity inside Gaza — including partnerships with academics, universities, and initiatives working to restore higher education from the ground up.
Strengthening trauma-informed and community-based support systems for students inside Gaza — recognising that academic recovery and personal healing must go hand in hand.
Education remains one of the most important foundations for rebuilding Gaza's future.
